The Writing
My novels are mysteries, plausible puzzles that invite a solution. They are thrillers, building to or averting catastrophe. They are history, suggesting how things got started. They are about people during times when personal decision have dire consequences. They are love stories, because everybody's relationship is iffy in hard times.
I describe ordinary people because that’s how we understand the challenges of good and evil. My characters try to discriminate between decent people with bad attitudes and bad people who do terrible things on purpose. Sometimes the good people I write about, are jerks - comic relief.
The stories are about three generations of the Rubin family who participate in some of the events that shaped present-day America. As the world's chessboard gets realigned in the stories, the Jewish Rubins must make the right moves. They are often in check.
